miracle morning, success coach, daily habits, daily routine

I may be late to the party, but I’ve recently discovered a wonderful new daily practise called THE MIRACLE MORNING.

Have you heard of it?

The Miracle Morning is based on author Hal Elrod’s book, The Miracle Morning, and it’s a simple, straightforward way to start your day by setting yourself up for success. I’ve always had a morning routine … but by adapting Hal’s principles to start my day, I’ve noticed some big shifts in my life already.

Hal Elrod has an amazing personal story and he’s gone thru some fairly traumatic events in his life … including a major car accident that he wasn’t expected to recover from. However, the worst situation he ever found himself in was in 2008 during the economic downturn, when he was in debt and struggling financially to support his family.

He knew he had to turn his life around and decided that if he could start his day by being positive and developing himself mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually he would be able to recover from his financial problems and create a better life for himself.

And … he did.

He’s now an author, speaker and runs a successful coaching company, as well as leading retreats.

The basics of the miracle morning are this … take the first hour of your day and infuse yourself with as much “good stuff” as you possibly can in that time period. Devote just 5 – 20 minutes a day to 6 areas of personal development in that first hour and watch your life change.

What do I mean by “good stuff”? Hal uses the acronym “SAVERS” to represent the 6 areas to work on:

Silence (Mediation)
Affirmations
Visualization
Exercise
Reading
Scribing (Journalling or Writing)

There are no “rules” about how much time you need to spend on each area … personally I have been trying to do a 20 minute mediation and a 30 minute walk every day, so I’ve shortened the other areas a bit. You can also extend the time of your miracle morning by getting up earlier as well … he recommends starting your day at 5:00am so that you have time to get to each section done before your start your work day.

It might take a few days to get into the habit of this new system, but once you start I think you’ll find that you’re going to love it.

Silence/Mediation – I use the “Calm” app for my mediations. There are great music tracks, visual imagery, as well as guided mediations. It’s all free, although you can upgrade for a monthly fee for additional guided mediations if you want.

Affirmations – Say affirmations out loud, and try to include your name as often as possible. I have mine written out on cards but you could also write them out in a notebook.

Exercise – Try a yoga DVD, a walk around your neighbourhood or some other simple way of starting off the day with some exercise. It doesn’t need to be complicated, just consistent.

Reading – Feed your mind with empowering and positive books to raise your vibration. Wealth consciousness books like ‘Think and Grow Rich’ or ‘The Science of Getting of Getting Rich’ are great, or spiritual development books like ‘The Power of Now’ or ‘A Course in Miracles’. Anything you find positive and that develops and stretches your mind.

Scribing/Journalling/Writing – If you’ve ever thought about writing a creative project, like a book, story story, screenplay or some other type of writing, this would be an ideal time to start your work. You’ll be amazed at the progress you can make on a creative project, even if you’re just writing for a few minutes a day. (I once wrote a script by just starting off writing 5-10 minutes a day). I have been writing a gratitude entry each morning, listing all the things I’m grateful for in my life. I use the Day One app on my ipad, which an easy to use free journalling app. You can combine photos with your writing as well.

I’ve only been a “miracle morning” girl for a few weeks, but I’m already seeing results in my life. I’ve introduced several of my new clients to this practise, and the feedback I’m getting is just great as well.

What about you? Do you have a regular morning routine? Have you tried the miracle morning program?

I’d love to hear about how you start your day. Leave a comment below and let me know and be sure to share this post with your friends … it’s such a simple way to move forward in a positive direction!

I’ll be thinking about you at 5:00am tomorrow morning!
